All cars must pass inspection to qualify for the race!  Each scout may enter only one car in the competition.  Each car must be made from the block of wood provided in the kit supplied by Pack 7.  Pre-cut cars are not accepted.  The car must have been made during the current school year.  These are the things that will be checked on each car:

  1. The width of the care, including wheels, shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches.  (That is basically the original block of wood with the wheels attached).

  2. The length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.  (No longer than the original block of wood)

  3. The weight of the car shall not exceed 5 ounces.  The Pack scale is the official scale for the race!  We will use the same scale for pre-weigh-in checks as for the official weigh-in on the day of the race.  Any other scale you choose to use (the post office, etc.) is only for weight approximation.  On the day of the race, if you car weighs 5 ounces, or less... it will be automatically entered in the race.  You WILL NOT be able to get your car back to add weight. If you car weighs over 5 ounces, you received you car back to take off weight until it complies with the 5 ounces or less rule.
    Pre weigh-in checks at den meetings on: 01/09/12 from 6:30pm - 7:30 pm   &  01/23/12 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm
Pre weigh-in checks and test rolls will be allowed during track set up on : 01/27/12 from 6 pm to 9 pm.

  4. No loose materials of any kind are permitted in, or on the car!  Details, such as steering wheels, driver, etc., are permissible as long as the details do not exceed the maximum length, width, and weight specifications.  If any of these items fall of during the rave, you WILL NOT be allowed to re-attach them for the remainder of the entire derby.

  5. Wheel bearings, washers and bushings are prohibited!  The care shall not ride on any type of springs.  You may remove the seam from the wheels.  Sanding the wheels is important so that the wheels roll smoothly, but you may not modify the wheels in any way.  Wheels can be sanded to remove surface imperfections, but the treads must be left flat.  If a wheel falls of during a heat, you will not get to re-run that heat again, but will get your car back to re-attach the wheel for the next heat.

  6. Axles may be smoothed with an emery cloth to remove burs and imperfections.  To fine tune you axles, you may polish them with a jeweler's rouge.  You may lubricate your axles with fine graphite or Teflon powder... anything else WILL slow down your car.  You do not have to mount your axles in the existing groove on your block of wood, although if you car has less than 3/8 inch clearance from the bottom of the car to the ground... it may hang up on the track.

  7. Your name and rank (Tiger, Wolf, etc.) must be clearly displayed on the bottom of the car.  You may also put your name on the top or sides of the car.

  8. If a car leaves the track, runs out of its lane, and does not interfere with another car, the heat will not be re-run (unless it is deemed that the track caused the problem).  If a car interferes with another car, the heat will be re-run a second time.  If that car interferes again, the heat will run a third time but without the disqualified car.

May the best car win!  Good Luck!
